Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of 20 August, (1007) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. Today there were no confirmed fallen heroes. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of August 20, a total of (5759) people are currently under detention. (255) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1984 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. We are also continuing to verify the recently released detainees. 

Thar Htet Aung, a child under the age of 18, who had a warrant issued against him under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code for his active involvement in multiple protest columns including for the Mandalay Protest Alliance Force against the dictatorship, was arrested at a house in Mandalay Region’s Maha Aung Myay Township on August 19 around 5 pm by the terrorist junta. 

Khaing Lwin, who was giving oxygen machines for free in Hlaing  Thayar Township, Yangon Region, for those who needed it, was arrested at home and accused of being a PDF member. Over 20 terrorist junta soldiers wearing plain clothes raided the house on August 19 at around 2 pm.

Three civilians named Hla Win Aung a.k.a Sin Gyi, Win Htut Nyein a.k.a Kyat Pha Gyi and Min Khaing, living in Taung Pyin (1) Ward and Taung Pyin (2) Ward in  Taungdwingyi Town in Magway Region, were arrested unprovoked at their homes by the junta soldiers on August 19 at night around 12 pm.
