Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of 20 July, (922) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes from Sanchaung Township and Hlaing Tharyar Township in Yangon Region and Kyaukdaga Township in Bago Region were killed the previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of July 20, a total of (5315) people are currently under detention. (255) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1963 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. We are also continuing to verify the recently released detainees. 

Nyan Win, NLD Secretary, who contracted COVID-19 while he was detained in Insein Prison, and only then transferred to Yangon General Hospital due to his severe condition because he did not receive adequate medical treatment in prison, died on July 20 in hospital. Likewise, Win Kyaing, NLD executive member of Western Hlaing Tharyar Township of Yangon Region, died on July 20 due to COVID-19 having been detained in Insein Prison. 

Aye Hla, Vice Chairman of NLD of Kyaukdaga Township of Bago Region, died on July 19 at Daik-u (Kyaik Za Kaw) Prison due to injuries consistent with torture during interrogation. He was arrested on June 16 having been accused of providing training to PDFs and allegedly in possession of weapons, when the junta did not find his son Linn Linn Kyaw, MP for Kyaukdaga Township of Bago Region. 

AAPP will continue to keep you informed of verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update our lists to the details of these alleged offences.
