There are a total of (112) post-coup death row prisoners as of October 2, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (155) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,583) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, the junta has been launching artillery shells at non-military target civilian areas, including schools, hospitals, and religious buildings, since the coup. These actions are considered to be war crimes and human rights violations. Only within this month, the junta has continued its artillery attacks in various regions and states, including Mindat Town in Chin State, Hpakant Town in Kachin State, Hpruso Township in Kayah State, and Salingyi Township in Sagaing Region. These attacks have resulted in injuries to civilians and forced local residents to evacuate from their homes.

On September 27, LIB-102 of the junta forces, based in Wuntho Town, launched 3 shells of 155 mm Howitzer at Gyoe Taung Village in Wuntho Township, Sagaing Region. As a result of the explosion inside the monastery in the village, 20 students and a teacher were injured, with 6 of them sustaining serious injuries.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses. Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

September 18th, 2023 Posted in Daily Briefing since Coup, Slide show | Comments Off on Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Updated 18 September 2023

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,089) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (400) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (24,788) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,219) are currently in detention, (7,345) of whom are serving sentences.

There are a total of (107) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 18, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,569) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, some ASEAN member countries recently attended the 20th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference in Nay Pyi Taw from September 12 to 15. The terrorist junta’s Chief of Air Force, who has blatantly committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and other human rights violations, served as a chairman of this Conference.

During this same Conference, junta forces carried out airstrikes across the country, including in Indaw, Pale and Ayadaw Townships in Sagaing Region, Kyaukkyi Township in Bago Region, Kyainseikgyi Township in Kayin State, and Mogoke Township in Mandalay Region. As a result, innocent civilians were killed and locals were displaced internally.

Throughout 2023, the junta has increasingly been carrying out airstrikes on non-military targets such as civilian areas, including IDP camps, schools, hospitals and religious buildings. It has been over a year since the junta carried out helicopter attacks on a Let Yet Kone Village school in Tabayin Township, Sagaing Region. The attack on September 16, 2022, resulted in the deaths of several civilians including children. Until now, the junta has not been held accountable for its crimes, and continues to commit them with impunity.

Within these recent weeks, the junta has been carrying out airstrikes on non-military target civilian areas without any clashes taking place. On the night of September 15, 2023, junta forces dropped bombs from a jet fighter plane, targeting a monastery in Kha Yan Sat Kone Village, located in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region. As a result, abbot Rar Zeinda died immediately and a caretaker called Win Thein, who was also killed by shrapnel.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
