Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,150) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,400) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,457) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,918) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to July 9, 2026, (60) people in total; (21) women and (39) men, were killed in detainment by the junta across the country, including (17) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a two-year-old boy. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the (60) deaths, Bago Region records the highest number of fatalities, totaling (33). During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (64) civilians who were killed under detention, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On July 2, at approximately 7 p.m., Min Kyaw Thu (aka Shwe Gal) from Sut Pa Nu Village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, was returning home from work when he was arrested by a battalion under Kyaikto-based Light Infantry Division No. (44) (LID-44) and militiamen. They proceeded to beat and torture him, inflicting injuries to his stomach and chest. On the morning of July 3, he was returned to his home, but he subsequently succumbed to his injuries due to their severity about 30 minutes later.
