⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,110) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,218) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,349) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,876) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The junta continues to carry out arbitrary arrests and imprisonment of civilians on a daily basis. On June 19, five local farmers from Lemyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, were beaten and arrested for allegedly being affiliated with the Arakan Army (AA). Meanwhile, seven political prisoners who had been released from Kyaukpyu Prison in Rakhine State were rearrested and sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment under the Counter-Terrorism Law.

In addition, civilian casualties resulting from the junta’s airstrikes across the country continue to rise, with (55) civilians killed during the first three weeks of June [at the time of writing]. On June 16, the junta bombed Nyaung Hla Village, Nattalin Township, Bago Region, killing three civilians. Similarly, on June 17, a junta airstrike on Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, killed eight civilians, including a child, and injured many others. On June 19, at least five civilians were killed in a junta airstrike on Kyan Dway Town, Kanpetlet Township, Chin State, according to reports from the ground.
