Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,058) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,040) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,256) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,881) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Inmates continue to face violations to their fundamental human rights, in prisons across the country. They are reportedly not only deprived of adequate food, clean drinking water and basic healthcare, but are also subject to abuse by prison authorities. Inmates at Daik-U Prison in Bago Region are suffering from inadequate nutrition and overcrowded cells, leading to worsening health problems. Skin diseases are particularly common, but according to sources close to the prison, they are neglected adequate medical treatment or healthcare.

In addition, the junta has been carrying out a series of killings against civilians, through various means. On May 18, while junta forces were launching an offensive into Ta Pyin Village, Saw Township, Magway Region, a mentally ill woman remained in the village because she was unable to flee. She was raped and killed by these junta forces. Similarly, on May 21, four civilians were killed and more than 20 houses were damaged when an airstrike hit Ywar Sin Village, Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region. On the same day, according to reports from the ground, three people, including two children under the age of 18, were killed when an airstrike was conducted on Oke Tu Village, Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region.
