⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,519) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (32,084) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,978) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,732) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to October 9, 2026, (25) people in total; (12) women and (13) men, were killed by the junta from the education sector – teachers and students – across the country, including (14) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the deaths, Magway Region and Tanintharyi Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (7) people each, and (21) people were killed by the junta’s airstrike.

In the early morning of October 3, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing on Rathedaung Township, Rakhine State. The bombs exploded inside the wards and villages of the township. During the attack, Moe Moe Nwe, a Grade 9 student from Chut Pyin Village, and Aung Kyaw Thar, an elderly man from Pyar Chaung Gyi Village, were killed from bomb shrapnel.

During the stated period, the junta arrested women from the education sector (2) people in Yangon Region in relation to the Spring Revolution across the country.
