From August 1 to 31, 2026
3 September 2026
According to information gathered by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), there have been (14) individuals who was arrested under political pretenses in August 2026. Moreover, (94) pro-democracy activists and civilians have lost their lives this month. Among them, (7) lost their lives under various circumstances following their arrest.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP and only includes information and data that has been identified. The actual numbers on the ground are likely much higher. AAPP has been working separately to collect and verify the information of around (58) people still under identification, who died within the month.
Junta forces have been committing arson attacks and killings during their military offensives into villages, in addition to conducting airstrikes on civilian populations. Moreover, inadequate access to medical treatment has resulted in fatalities inside prisons. Given such incidents, the junta has blatantly been violating international human rights laws. The international community must increase pressure on the junta while avoiding actions that could confer legitimacy or recognition to them. The perpetrators of these cruel conducts must be held accountable in accordance with international law and justice and effective remedies should remain central to efforts to protect victims and address these serious human rights violations.
