Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 24 February 2026
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,813) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,514) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,803) are currently in detention, (11,566) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to February 24, 2026, (27) people in total; (16) women and (11) men, were killed by the junta in Magway Region, including (6) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a one-year-old boy. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (17) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (20) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On February 5, the junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using fighter jets on Mi Ae Village, Saw Township, Magway Region, despite an absence of military clashes. The bombs exploded on houses inside the village. The bomb shrapnel killed students, Hsu Yadi Lwin and Hnin Thiri Lwin, as well as Han Kyi, Khin Moe Moe Khaing, and Phyu Phyu Win.
