Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,736) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (30,351) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,762) are currently in detention, (11,497) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to December 31, 2025, (129) people in total age 65 and above; (59) women and (70) men, were killed by the junta across the country. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of deaths, totaling (32), followed by (31) people in Magway Region. Moreover, among the (129) deceased, (86) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest cause of death, followed by (22) people who were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.

On the afternoon of December 27, 2025, junta forces conducted a drone bombing on Ta Ein Te Village, Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, despite the absence of clashes. The explosion struck a tea shop in the village, with the bomb shrapnel  instantly killing three locals: Hla Saung, Soe Thu, and one unidentified individual.
