Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,699) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,307) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,751) are currently in detention, (11,485) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to 20, 2026, (20) people in total; (10) women and (10) men, were killed by the junta in Sagaing Region, including (5) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (16) people who were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths, and the rest (4) were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (34) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On January 15, junta forces fired heavy weaponry. The explosion struck Yae Lel Maw Village, Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, killing Win Kyaw, Khin Yu, and Aye Chaw, who had briefly returned home while seeking refuge elsewhere from the village, from artillery shrapnel.
