Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,646) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,223) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,686) are currently in detention, (11,436) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
From January 1 to December 31, 2025, a total of 269 individuals were arrested for political reasons, and 1,514 pro-democracy activists and civilians lost their lives, according to documentation by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), which are verified identities. Among the deaths, (975) were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. (212) were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes. (236) were killed in various ways after being detained by the junta.
On January 8, 2025 at approximately 1:20 p.m., junta forces conducted another aerial bombing in Kyauk Ni Maw Village, Ramree Township, Rakhine State, killing at least 40 locals and seriously injuring many others.
On July 5, 2022, junta forces arrested Ye Linn Zaw. On March 9, he was sentenced to 10 years under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. On May 15, 2023, he was transferred from Insein Prison to Thayarwady Prison. During his imprisonment, he did not receive adequate healthcare or food, leading to his death from cholera in Thayarwady Prison in June 2025.
