Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,625) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (30,169) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,668) are currently in detention, (11,416) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has been monitoring the prison situation and has learned that inmates from Mawlamyine Prison, located in Hpet Tan Ward, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, are reportedly being transferred to Hpa-an Prison, Kyaikmaraw Prison, and the newly constructed New Mawlamyine Prison in Min Ywa Village, Mawlamyine Township, starting from December 12.

Civilians continue to be killed and their property destroyed due to the junta’s targeted attacks. On December 16 and 17, four civilians were killed in aerial bombings of villages in Lemyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region. On December 18, six civilians were injured and one man was killed in an unprovoked airstrike on Road No. (3) in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region. In addition, four days of airstrikes, ground offensives, and arson attacks on six villages in Yinmarbin Township, Sagaing Region, from December 16 to 19 resulted in the destruction of more than 200 homes. On December 19, according to ground reports, 25 homes were burned down in Zaung Gyan Kone Village, located on the border of Myaing Township and Pakokku Township in Magway Region.
