Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,503) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (30,057) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,693) are currently in detention, (11,428) of whom are serving sentences. 

According to the latest information gathered and confirmed by AAPP, (87) people have been arrested under the Election Protection Law, among whom (54) individuals have not yet been identified. 

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The military junta, who are trying to hold a sham election in order to seek international recognition, continues to arrest civilians under various pretexts. It has been reported that political prisoners and other ordinary prisoners are being forced to cast advance votes for the election.

Similarly, civilian casualties targeted by the junta continued to rise in the last week of November. According to data collected by AAPP, around (45) individuals lost their lives as a result of various forms of attacks. On 22 November, three women living in an IDP camp near Baw Yan Village in Pekon Township, Shan State, were killed when the military junta carried out a drone bombing while they were working on a hillside farm. Likewise, on 24 November, six civilians were killed when the junta launched an airstrike on the township hospital in Kan Htu Ma Village, Taze Township, Sagaing Region. Furthermore, on 28 November, an airstrike on Kyauktaw Township’s Kyaung Hpo Village in Rakhine State killed seven civilians, including a child, and left many others injured.
