Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 23 October 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,399) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,859) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,548) are currently in detention, (11,259) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to October 23, 2025, (221) people in total; (39) women and (182) men, have been killed in detainment by the junta across the country, including (8) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, Mandalay Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (76) people, followed by (54) people who were killed in Magway Region.
Since October 7, around 300 junta troops from the No. (24) Directorate of Defense Industry based in Pauk Township, Magway Region, launched an offensive into their surrounding areas. During a raid on Tei Pin Village, the troops captured and shot dead three local residents — Thein Han, Zaw Tun, and his minor daughter, Cho Zin Htwe. Their bodies were found in the village on October 13.
