Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 23 June 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,813)people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,316) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,163) are currently in detention, (10,867) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

In the past week, junta forces have been targeting buildings and civilians that are clearly non-military in nature. On June 16, they conducted an aerial bombing on a monastery in Zee Taw Village, Myaing Township, Magway Region, killing an internally displaced person (IDP) and destroying the monastery. On June 20, they carried out an airstrike on a school in In Gar Village, Pinlebu Township, Sagaing Region, killing a teacher and injuring many others.

In addition, on June 21, junta forces bombed Ma Yoe Kone Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, despite no clashes occurring, killing an elderly father and his daughter, and injuring around nine others. On June 22, a junta airstrike hit “Myit Tar Nanda” Hospital, located on the border between Madaya Township and Singu Township in Mandalay Region, killing one person, injuring more than 10 others, and damaging parts of the hospital building.
