Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 17 June 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,807) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,287) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,134) are currently in detention, (10,849) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to June 17, 2025, (100) people in total; (47) women and (53) men, were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes across the country, including (18) children under the age of 18. These are numbers that have been verified. Among them, Magway Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (16) people. (13) people were killed in the Bago Region.

On June 14, Infantry Battalion No. 264 (IB-264), stationed in Pein Za Loke Town, Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region, fired heavy weaponry into Nwar Yay Chaung Village, Taung Khin Village Tract, Kyauktaga Township. The attack killed Saw Soe Thu, due to artillery shrapnel.
