Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 4 June 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,772) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,226) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,087) are currently in detention, (10,753) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to May 31, 2025, (53) people in total; (6) women and (47) men, were killed by the junta’s gunfire across the country. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the (53) deceased, Magway Region records the highest number of fatalities with (15) people killed, followed by (12) in Sagaing Region.

On May 31, at approximately 9:30 a.m., around 100 personnel from a coalition of junta forces based at a camp in Chat Thin Village, along with Pyu Saw Htee militiamen, launched an offensive into Kan Gyi Village, Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. They shot and killed Thein Htwe and Zayar Tun on the western side of the village.
