“Despite ASEAN’s urging to adhere to the Five-Point Consensus, the junta continues to carry out airstrikes against innocent civilians and students. These actions constitute war crimes and make it increasingly difficult for civilians to forgive the junta. Furthermore, the problems in Burma are not confined within its borders but are also spilling over into neighboring countries. The junta’s actions are undermining peace and stability across the country. War crimes are violations of international law, yet ASEAN and the international community—by continuing diplomatic engagement with the junta while seeking ways to put and end these ongoing violations as soon as possible—are in effect encouraging the military junta and enabling it to enjoy impunity.” Ko Bo Kyi, Joint Secretary of AAPP
