Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 2 June 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,765) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,213) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,076) are currently in detention, (10,731) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Junta forces have been launching offensives in townships across Kachin State, Bago Region, and Sagaing Region, killing civilians and arresting others to use as human shields. Beginning on May 27, junta forces initiated an offensive in Lone Hkin Village, Hpakant Township, Kachin State, killing six innocent civilians. Additionally, on May 28, during an offensive in Taungoo Township, Bago Region, junta forces arrested three civilians to be used as human shields. For no apparent reason, these junta forces also shot two civilians dead, who were riding a motorbike at the entrance of the road in Doe Nei Village. On May 29, junta forces launched offensives into three villages in Paukkhaung Township, Bago Region, and burned down civilian houses without justification.

On May 30, junta forces arrested civilians to use as human shields in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, forcing thousands of people to flee from more than eight villages. Moreover, on the same day, indiscriminate artillery fire by junta forces in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region, struck a house and killed a father and son after they were hit by shrapnel.
