Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 28 May 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,759) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,197) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,062) are currently in detention, (10,706) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from May 1 to 28, 2025, (17) people in total; (1) woman and (16) men, were killed after being detained by the junta across the country, including (2) people in prisons. These are the numbers that have been verified.
On November 4, 2021, seven junta soldiers in civilian clothes arrested Kyaw Soe (aka Yaw Paw Lay) at his home in Ta Ku Tone Village, Kyar Inn Village Tract, Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, for allegedly being involved with the “Moon Light” group. He was taken to Hlegu Interrogation Center in a private car. On December 7, 2022, Insein Prison Court sentenced him to ten years in prison under Section 50(i) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. He was suffering from frequent dizziness and had been collapsing due to injuries sustained during interrogation. However, he did not receive adequate medical treatment while incarcerated in Thayarwady Prison. This led to his death on May 23, 2025.
