Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,733) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,184) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,084) are currently in detention, (10,721) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Over the past week, junta forces have conducted ground offensives, airstrikes, and heavy weaponry attacks in several regions and states, including Sagaing and Bago Regions. These assaults have resulted in civilian casualties, destruction of buildings, and forced displacement of locals seeking safety. Since May 18, many residents from 10 villages in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, have fled their homes due to ground offensives. On May 22, junta forces fired heavy weapons into Na Gar Twin Village, Monywa Township, killing two villagers and severely injuring 12 others.

Additionally, on May 23, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing in Min Su Village, Mingin Township, Sagaing Region, killing around 20 people, including a newborn infant. On May 25, they launched an airstrike into Kyun Gyi Village, where the explosion struck a wedding ceremony that was taking place in the village. The airstrike killed at least 10 people, including children, and injured more than 20 others.
