Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,710) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,167) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,097) are currently in detention, (10,725) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to May 21, 2025, (50) people in total from the education sector – teachers and students, were killed by the junta across the country. This comprised (32) women and (18) men, including (38) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among them, (40) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, causing the highest number of deaths. (4) people were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.
On May 19, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Thet Oo, a teacher who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), briefly returned to his home in No. (4) Ward, Kyondoe Town, to retrieve his belongings, having been displaced and taking shelter at an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Kawkareik Township, Kayin State. While he was there, an artillery shell, fired by the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion No. (546) (LIB-546), exploded inside the ward and the artillery shrapnel killed him.
