Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 6 May 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,615) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,116) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,199) are currently in detention, (10,792) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to May 6, 2025, (71) people in total; (15) women and (56) men, have been killed in detainment by the junta across the country, including (1) child under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among these deaths, Magway Region records the highest number of fatalities with (29) people, followed by Sagaing Region with (16) fatalities.
Hein Min Thu (aka Ah Noe), a political prisoner detained in Katha Prison, Katha Township, Sagaing Region, suffered from epilepsy. Due to inadequate medical care, he lost consciousness on April 26, 2025. Despite being transported to a hospital outside the prison, while unconscious, he died on the same day. Hein Min Thu was a teacher who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). Junta forces arrested him on June 5, 2023, for allegedly participating in revolutionary activities. He was charged under Sections 50(j), 52(a), and 52(b) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison on March 28, 2024.
