According to information gathered by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), there have been a total of (6) individuals who were arrested under political pretenses in April 2025. Moreover, (96) pro-democracy activists and civilians have lost their lives this month. Among them, (4) lost their lives under various circumstances following their arrest.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP and only includes information and data that has been identified. The actual numbers on the ground are likely much higher. AAPP has been working separately to collect and verify the information of around (150) people still under identification, who died within the month.
Although April is the New Year period for the Burmese, those—already suffering from the natural disaster that struck on March 28, as well as from the man-made disaster caused by the junta—have been stripped of their joy. Despite receiving international aid intended to help those affected by the earthquake, the junta has shown neither the capacity nor the will to manage the aid systematically. As a result, the assistance has not been properly reaching those truly in need. International and UN agencies providing humanitarian support should not focus solely on victims of natural disasters; they must also strive to assist those displaced and disabled by the junta’s airstrikes and artillery shelling. If these organizations provide aid only in areas under the junta’s control, their efforts will be one-sided and may effectively be granting the military junta an indirect license to kill the civilians.” Ko Bo Kyi, Joint Secretary of AAPP
