Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 23  April 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,550) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,061) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,163) are currently in detention, (10,755) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from April 1 to 23, 2025, the junta’s airstrikes killed (55) people in total across the country; (32) women and (23) men, including (17) children under the age of 18. These are numbers that have been verified. Among the (55) fatalities, Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of deaths, totaling (21). 

On April 20, at approximately 6 p.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using high-explosive bombs into Thin Taw Village, Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. The explosion struck a grocery store named ‘Daw Mu Cho’, instantly killing six members of a local family—Mi Thay, Min Min, Phoe Mawt, Khin Mar Hnin, Saw, and Kyaw Min Gyi, all due to bomb shrapnel.
