Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 8 April 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,486) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,007) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,180) are currently in detention, (10,751) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to April 8, 2025, (59) people in total; (31) women and (28) men, were killed by the junta in Sagaing Region, including (8) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (44) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths.
On April 6, at approximately 11 p.m., junta forces based at Monywa’s Northwestern Command Headquarters conducted an aerial bombing using paramotors in Thone Pan Hla Village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region. The explosion struck a house in the village, killing three siblings—Than Nu, Mya Tote, and Win Zaw Oo—from bomb shrapnel. Their house and bodies were burned down in the fire.
