Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,473) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,961) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,165) are currently in detention, (10,743) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to observations by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), while civilians were suffering from the aftermath of a powerful earthquake that struck in the afternoon of March 28, junta forces continued to carry out relentless airstrikes. These airstrikes took place on areas including Chaung-U Township in Sagaing Region, Bhamo Township in Kachin State, Nawnghkio Township in Shan State, Pauk Township in Magway Region, Kyaukpyu Township in Rakhine State, Phyu Township in Bago Region, and some areas in Kayin State. The airstrikes damaged homes and shops, resulting in civilian casualties. In some areas, telephone lines and internet services were disrupted, making it difficult to assess the situation on the ground.
Additionally, the junta has not released a official statement, relating to the impact of the earthquake on prisons in the affected areas or the well-being of inmates as a result of the disaster. As a result, families of the inmates are deeply concerned about their safety.
