Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 28  March 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,468) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (28,954) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,159) are currently in detention, (10,735) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 28, 2025, the junta killed (50) people in total in Rakhine State; (25) women and (25) men, including (12) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the deaths, (44) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death.

On March 25, at approximately 7 p.m., junta forces carried out an aerial bombing using high-explosive bombs in Aung Hpyu Pyin Village, Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State. The explosion hit near a monastery in the village, instantly killing Than Maung, his wife Ma Yay, and their son Thet Naing, and injuring at least 10 people due to bomb shrapnel. All of them were internally displaced persons, and the family of three had come from Leik Pyin Kone Ward. Ye Linn Soe, one of the injured, who had come from Yoe Ta Yoke Village, succumbed to his injuries while being treated due to their severity.
