Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 27 March 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,467) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,948) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,153) are currently in detention, (10,730) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 27, 2025, the junta arrested (56) people in relation to the Spring Revolution: (12) women and (44) men, across the country. Moreover, during the stated period, (103) people in total: (34) women and (69) men, were given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta, and are still detained in prisons across the country. Among them, (2) people were sentenced to the death penalty. (71) people were sentenced in Sagaing Region, recording the highest number of sentences.
On January 13, 2024, junta forces arrested Myint Myint Aye from Paungde Township, Bago Region, for allegedly having connections with her son, who is a striking police officer (CDM), and her husband, who is a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF). On March 25, 2025, the Paungde Township Military Tribunal sentenced her to the death penalty under Sections 49 (a) and 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. After the sentencing, she was transferred from Paungde Prison to Thayawady Prison.
