Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 19  March 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,412) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (28,888) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,103) are currently in detention, (10,669) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 19, 2025, the junta killed (50) people in total in Sagaing Region; (27) women and (23) men. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the deaths, (38) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death.

On March 16, at approximately 10 p.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Sint Kaing Village, Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, despite the absence of any clashes. The explosions struck houses in the village, killing four people—two elderly civilians, Mya Thaung and Kyi Kyi, an unidentified woman, and an infant—due to bomb shrapnel.
