Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 18 March 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,410) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,879) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,094) are currently in detention, (10,658) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1, 2024 to March 18, 2025, the junta killed (72) people in total across the country. This included (42) civilians who were set on fire while alive and (30) dead bodies were set on fire following detainment. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (72) deceased, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities with (24) people killed, followed by (20) in Magway Region.
Between March 7 and 12, 2025, junta forces launched an offensive into Thar Gaung Village, Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, and stationed themselves in the area. They apprehended six civilians, subjected them to torture, and brutally killed them. One of the victims, Chit Maung, was decapitated, and his body was burned.
