Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 17 March 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,406) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,861) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,077) are currently in detention, (10,642) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Junta forces have been deliberately targeting non-military sites, including schools, religious buildings, and civilian structures. On March 12, 2025, they launched a ground offensive and carried out airstrikes in Pan Nyo Village, Myaung Township, Sagaing Region; Nay Pu Khan Village, Salin Township, Magway Region; and Kyat Tein Village, Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State. The attacks destroyed schools, monasteries, and approximately 150 civilian houses.
Additionally, junta forces have been targeting airstrikes at civilians. On March 14, 2025, an airstrike on Let Pan Hla Village, Singu Township, Mandalay Region, killed 27 people, including children. On the same day, incendiary weapons were used during an aerial bombing in Su Win and Wei Taung Villages, Myaing Township, Magway Region, killing two civilians and a novice, while also destroying a monastery and several houses. Similarly, on March 16, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing in Nawnghkio Town, Shan State, killing at least 14 civilians, including a monk and novices.
