Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 5  March 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,380) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (28,741) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,967) are currently in detention, (10,510) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 5, 2025, the junta arrested (52) people in relation to the Spring Revolution; (11) women and (41) men, across the country. On March 2, junta forces arrested Poe Ou, a CDM healthcare worker from Sit Koe Pin Village, Magway Township, Magway Region, for allegedly providing support to the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

Moreover, during the stated period, (80) people in total; (24) women and (56) men, were given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta, and are still detained in prisons across the country. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of sentences at (55) people, including (6) people who were sentenced to life imprisonment.
