Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 28 January 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,215) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,390) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,668) are currently in detention, (10,147) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1, to 28, 2025, (16) people in total; (8) women and (8) men, were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes across the country, including (3) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among these deaths, Magway Region had the highest number of deaths, with (5) people.
On January 26, at approximately 5 p.m., the Directorate of Defence Industries (DI) Unit-22 of the junta forces indiscriminately fired heavy weaponry in Seikphyu Township, Magway Region, despite the absence of clashes in the area. The explosions struck the yard of a house in Kin Pun Taung Village, with the artillery shrapnel killing four family members and a local civilian. The victims were identified as Shwe Kyin, Myint Naing, Than Nwet, and twins Thukha Min and Thukha Win.
