Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 16 January 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,182) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,261) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,548) are currently in detention, (10,021) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, the junta killed (167) people in total in Mandalay Region; (57) women and (110) men, including (19) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the deaths, (51) people were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes, marking the highest number of fatalities, followed by (38) who were killed by the junta’s airstrikes.
On December 30, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., junta forces fired two artillery shells into Lint Kone Village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region. A shell exploded inside a monastery, instantly killing a local named Pu Sein, due to shrapnel. Another shell struck a house, killing Myo Myo Min and a child named Myo Zarni Thway.
