Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,082) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (28,025) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,454) are currently in detention, (9,879) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from October 1 to December 25, 2024, the junta killed (308) people in total; (125) women and (183) men, across the country with (10) people from the education sector. The identity of these victims have been verified. Among the (308) fatalities, the junta’s airstrikes killed (163) people, making the highest number of deaths.

Moreover, during the stated period, the junta arrested and detained (113) people in total; (29) women and (84) men, across the country. Among them, Yangon Region records the highest number of arrests, totaling (24). On December 10, 2024, Yan Naung Kyi Win, a member of the Shwepyithar Strike Committee and a resident of Bago Township, Bago Region, were re-arrested by the military junta. He had previously been arrested on April 16, 2021, and was released on October 18, 2021. This time, while staying at a motel in Ward No. 8, Shwepyithar Township, the military junta raided the motel under the pretext of checking the guest registry, and arrested him again. When re-arrested, he was charged under Section 505 A of the Penal Code.
