Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 24 December 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,080) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,011) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,441) are currently in detention, (9,852) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from October 1 to December 24, 2024, the junta killed (81) people in total; (32) women and (49) men in Rakhine State, including (15) children under the age of 18. The identity of these victims have been verified. Among the (81) deceased, the junta’s airstrikes killed (67) people, marking the highest cause of deaths and the junta’s artillery strikes killed (8) people.
On the night of December 17, junta forces fired heavy weaponry at Pa Day Thar Village, Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State. An explosion inside the village instantly killed Maung Yin Thar, a resident of Sittwe Township, who had sought refuge there, due to artillery shrapnel.
