Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 20 November 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,973) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,694) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,137) are currently in detention, (9,526) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to data collected by AAPP, from February 1, 2021 to November 20, 2024, (671) children in total; (101) children in 2021 and (136) children in 2022, (208) children in 2023 and (226) children from January to November 20, 2024, were killed by the junta across the country. The identity of these victims have been verified.
On November 15, 2024, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Kone Law Village, Momauk Township, Kachin State. The explosion struck the Kachin Baptist church, instantly killing six family members—Lazum Zing Wa, his wife Npyen Mun Mai and their children Lazum Myu Jat Awng, Lazum Sa Ra Seng, Lazum May Sen Pan, and Lazum Sut Zai Li—as well as three other children, Gawlu Gun Seng Maw, Sumlut Mung Htoi Awng, and Lashi Tawm San. They were seeking refuge near the church at the time of their deaths. They died as a result of bomb shrapnel.
