Date – 18 November 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,956) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,683) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,129) are currently in detention, (9,524) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Despite releasing a lantern with the slogan, “Nothing is more important than a human’s life,” at the junta’s Tazaungdaing Festival, junta forces have continued to carry out daily airstrikes during the festival period. These airstrikes coincide with the return of the junta leader from his diplomatic trip to China. According to observations, the air attacks have resulted in the death of over 50 civilians, including children, and injuries to over 100 people. Furthermore, junta forces have consistently targeted civilian structures deemed non-military, forcing locals from areas including Budalin Township, Kanbalu Township and Mindat Township, to flee for safety. These displaced individuals are facing significant challenges related to food shortages and exposure to the elements.
Airstrikes and heavy weapon attacks have been conducted almost daily in areas controlled by ethnic resistance organizations (EROs). On the early morning of November 18, an aerial bombing in Kutkai Township, Shan State, reportedly killed three civilians, including an infant.
