Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 12  November 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,944) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,661) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,107) are currently in detention, (9,507) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to November 12, 2024, (1270) women have been killed by the junta across the country, with Sagaing Region recording the highest number of deaths, totaling (463) within the region. The identities of these victims have been verified. (95) women were killed between February and December in 2021, (213) women were killed in 2022, (402) women were killed in 2023 and (560) women were killed from January to November 12, 2024.

On November 10, at approximately 3:15 a.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing with highly destructive bombs near An Taw Bridge in Thandwe Township, Rakhine State. The explosion hit the “Daw Aye Kyawt Sein” restaurant close to the bridge, killing Su Su Hlaing and Wine Sein Ma, a woman with mental illness, from bomb shrapnel.
