Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 11  November 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,941) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (27,653) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,099) are currently in detention, (9,499) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to observations made by the Documentation and Research Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), junta forces, who have been intentionally targeting non-military target buildings, set fire to civilian buildings in Mindat Township, Chin State, as well as carrying out an airstrike, destroying over 50 buildings, including churches. Additionally, on November 4, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Zee Pauk Village, Taze Township, destroying a school and civilian buildings. Moreover, due to military offensives and clashes of junta forces, civilians had to flee their homes for safety in several regions and states of Burma, and they were experiencing malnourishment and deaths due to shortage of rations and medicine.

The junta intentionally neglects healthcare needs to political inmates, resulting in health complications such as skin diseases. In addition, they are releasing political prisoners, who had a slim chance of survival, instead of providing adequate medical treatment, highlighting the concealment of the junta’s cruelty and their deceit towards the citizens. According to data gathered by the AAPP since the coup, there has been a total of 107 people who died either inside the prisons or in the days after their release, due to the impacts of sustained incarceration.
