Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 4  November 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,919) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (27,631) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,081) are currently in detention, (9,487) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring conducted by AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, women in Burma are enduring human rights violations and sexual violence at the hands of junta forces during the ongoing military conflict. Released women report that, starting in August 2024, soldiers raped some of the women detained at Indaw Myoma Monastery in Sagaing Region. Additionally, on October 26, soldiers raped a 56-year-old woman in Pinlaung Township, Shan State.

Furthermore, junta forces, who continue to commit blatant war crimes, launched an offensive in Kabalu Township, Sagaing Region, during the last week of October. During the assault, they set fired at and destroyed non-military targets; specifically civilian and religious buildings, and arrested civilians.
