Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 29  October 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,895) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,592) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,048) are currently in detention, (9,481) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to October 29, 2024, (50) people in total who died in formal detention facilities; (12) men in interrogation, (11) men in police stations, and (2) women and (25) men in prisons, were killed after being detained by the junta across the country. These identities have been verified.

Junta forces arrested Ye Aung (aka Ko Chin) from Ohn Pin Kwin Village, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region. He was sentenced to 10 years in Dawei Prison under Sections 50(j) and 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. While incarcerated, he suffered a stroke and was transferred to Dawei Public Hospital for treatment on September 27, 2024. He died in the hospital on October 17, 2024, during treatment.
