Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 24 October 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,880) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,572) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,029) are currently in detention, (9,475) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, during the period spanning from January 1 to October 24, 2024, (186) women, (469) men and (1) LGBT ; (656) people in total were arrested and still detained by the junta across the country, including (2) children who are 6-year-old arrested together with their parents. Among the (656) arrests, Yangon Region records the highest number of arrests with (178) people.
Moreover, during the stated period, (92) women and (395) men; (487) people in total, have been given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta and are still detained in prisons across the country. This includes (22) people who were re-sentenced in this period.
