Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 8  October 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,780) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,522) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,025) are currently in detention, (9,488) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from October 1 to 8, 2024, a total of (24) people; (13) women and (11) men, were killed by the junta across the country, with (7) children including 18 months old baby boy under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (24) deaths, Magway Region records the highest number of fatalities, totaling (10), and the number of people killed by junta’s airstrikes was the highest, with (18) deaths.

On October 5, at approximately 3 p.m., the Magway Air Force of the junta carried out an aerial bombing and fired machine guns from jet aircraft into Kyin Village, Tilin Township, Magway Region. The attack instantly killed Naing Htet Lwin, who was working in a workshop in the village, due to bomb shrapnel hitting his arm and stomach. Additionally, Win Hlaing and his son Bhone Wai Yan Min were killed by bomb shrapnel. Zaw Tun and Nadar Linn, who were seriously injured in the attack, succumbed to their injuries later that evening.
