Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,765) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,517) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,021) are currently in detention, (9,484) of whom are serving sentences.

In prisons across the country, the junta is deliberately neglecting the needs of inmates in various facets, failing to provide adequate food, access to clean water, healthcare, and other basic necessities. As a result, political prisoners enduring these harsh conditions are suffering to the point where their lives are at risk. According to the data collected by the AAPP, from the military coup on February 1, 2021 to October 7, 2024, a total of (103) people have been identified as having died while in detention due to various causes at the hands of the junta forces and their affiliates. This includes (63) people who died as a result of insufficient medical treatment in prison.
Dr. Zaw Myint Aung, the Chief Minister of Mandalay, was arrested by junta forces on February 1, 2021, following the coup. While detained in Mandalay Prison, he contracted COVID-19 and was suffering from leukaemia, but did not receive adequate medical care. As his health worsened, he was transferred to Mandalay Hospital for treatment in September, 2024. While he was unconscious in the hospital, junta forces read out the announcement of his prison release on October 6. He died on October 7, 2024, at 3 a.m.
