Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 30 September  2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,712) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (27,485) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,991) are currently in detention, (9,468) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Despite issuing an announcement on September 26 to the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAO) and People’s Defence Forces (PDF), urging them to abandon their armed struggle and resolve the issues through dialogue, the junta has continued to carry out airstrikes across the country. As a result of airstrikes in Thandwe Town, Rakhine State, on the morning of September 26, Lashio Town, Shan State, on September 27, and Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, on September 28, over 20 civilians were killed and many others were injured.

Additionally, the junta’s airstrikes and heavy artillery attacks killed at least three families in Ngazun and Madaya Townships, Mandalay Region, and Hsipaw Township, Shan State, during the month of September.
