Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 17 September 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,665) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,386) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,898) are currently in detention, (9,411) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from September 1 to 17, 2024, (28) women were killed by the junta across the country, including (3) deaths under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (28) fatalities, the highest cause of death came from the junta’s airstrikes, which killed (22) women.
On September 3, at approximately 2:30 a.m., junta forces carried out an aerial bombing using fighter aircraft in Kywe Kaw Pin Village, Lone Yan Village Tract, Yedashe Township, Bago Region, without any clashes occurring. The bombing resulted in the immediate death of Nwe Nwe Soe, a mother of a child, from bomb shrapnel.
