Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 11 September  2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,652) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,353) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,867) are currently in detention, (9,385) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to September 11, 2024, (449) women were killed by the junta across the country, including (21) deaths in September. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (449) fatalities, there were (62) girls under the age of 18. The highest cause of death came from the junta’s artillery shelling, which killed (209) women.

On September 8, at approximately 1 p.m., junta forces launched an offensive into Khin Ma Kan Village, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, and opened fire with heavy weaponry. The resulting artillery explosion instantly killed a local resident named Pyone due to artillery shrapnel.
